Eyewitnesses said the bus driver was on top speed when it suddenly rammed into the stationary truck. All the passengers on board died on the spot. The bus was coming from Kaduna State.

It was gathered that irate residents went on rampage to protest the deaths. They mobilised to burn the truck but for the quick intervention of policemen.

Commissioner of Police Olusola Amore confirmed the incident.

“A fully-loaded bus coming from Kaduna ran into a stationary vehicle and all the passengers died.

“The trailer, which was loaded with goods, has been impounded and we are working with the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) to trace the owner,” he said.

Florence Ede, aka ‘madam do good,’ was said to have engaged Kofi Kawku, Ali Sabi, Gomina Umaru, Abubakar Basira and Ayuba Adamu, to help harvest rice from her farm when they killed her.

According to Amore, the suspects were labourers “employed to work in her farm. They also stole 11 bags of rice after killing their victim.

“Investigations led to their arrest and they have confessed to committing the crime. The exhibits recovered from them include the Golf car used in conveying the rice and the stick used to kill the deceased.”

Also paraded were three suspected cultists, Ibrahim Imam, Salisudeen Imam and Saheed Mubaraq, belonging to the Aiye and Eiye confraternities.

Amore said the aftermath of the cult killings in Ilorin metropolis led to their arrest.

He added that live cartridges and charms were recovered from the suspects.
