ARSENE WENGER admits Arsenal look set to start the season without Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny.

Midfielder Aaron Ramsey had already revealed he does not expect to return to training in time for the big kick-off.And Wenger now admits that Giroud and Koscielny will be given extra time off to recover from Euro 2016 as well.

The pair went all the way to the final with France before losing to Portugal in Paris and have been told to take four weeks off.

Wenger said: “You consider the rest time because France had a long, long go and I believe that they need four weeks’ holiday because they need to recover from that.

“It takes you two or three weeks to regenerate, to recover completely, and they need to come back with hunger.

“That disappointment to lose a final, it takes some time to recover from that.

“I believe the club benefits from experiences at the top level, and the mental experiences as well that they have gone through with such a huge pressure.

“Of course, in the longer term you benefit from that.”FIFA regulations state players must have a three-week break before returning to training after a major tournament.

But Wenger believes three weeks is not enough and is also expected to give Germans Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker extra time off.

Germany, like Ramsey’s Wales, reached the semi finals of Euro 2016, meaning all five players could miss Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Liverpool on August 14.
