The Federal Government has announced that two communities in Kaduna State have enjoyed uninterrupted power supply for the past two years.
The Permanent Secretary of the power arm of the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Louis Edozien said this when delegates from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) visited the two communities, Punch reports.
He was represented at the even by the Acting Director, Renewable Energy Farauk Yabo to mark the end of the regional training workshop on improvement of policy and regulatory framework for clean energy mini-grids.
The two communities, Gnami and Pakau, are supplied power from a 90-kilowatt Solar PV off-grid system installed in the areas.
The off-grid system is said to be in line with the administration’s drive to provide electricity to communities far from the reach of the national grid and might not in the distant future have access to power supply.
The 40KW solar PV mini-grid at Gnami village is said to provide power to 100 households, while the 50KW solar PV renewable energy micro utility at the Pakau community provides to 300.
Ibrahim Yerima, the village head of Gnami, speaking on behalf of the two communities, thanked the Federal Government and assured the delegates that the facilities would be well protected and put into proper use.
