I made mistakes like a 16-year-old – Kolo Toure takes blame for Celtic defeat

Ivory Coast defender, Kolo Toure, has taken responsibility for Celtic’s 2-0 loss at home to Borussia Mochengladbach. The former Arsenal and Liverpool man, gave away possession twice and the German club scored their two goals through Lars Stindl and Andre Hahn.

The defeat leaves the Hoops’ Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

“In that kind of competition you can’t afford that kind of mistake. I have to blame myself,” Toure said in an interview with BT Sport.

“I have to blame myself because it was a simple action to put the ball to the side. I like to play and give my team the ball but maybe not there.

“It was the same with the second goal. I’m 35-years-old and still making 16-year-old’s mistakes.

Captain Scott Brown played down the significance of Toure’s errors, saying: “Everyone makes mistakes. The gaffer wants us to play out from the back and that’s the way it should be.

We’re always going to make mistakes – in the SPL we can get away with it but not tonight.”

Coach Brendan Rodgers, also refused to blame Toure, who joined Celtic in the summer.

“He’s a top professional, Kolo,” he said.

“When you’re asking players to play at times that happens. There’s no blame attached to him there.”
