Plane carrying Brazil football team Chapecoense has crashed in Colombia

960A plane carrying the Brazilian first division side Chapecoense has crashed in Colombia, on its approach to the city of Medellin, according to BBC News.

Details are still unclear at this point although early reports indicate there are survivors.

Chapecoense were due to play in the final of the Copa Sudamerica – South American’s equivalent of the Europa League – against Medellin-based team Atletico Nacional.

The final of the tournament has now been suspended.

It’s understood the chartered plane, flying from Bolivia, crashed in a mountainous area outside Medellin shortly before midnight local time (05:00 GMT).
