Sanwoolu threatens to ban MC Oluomo’s NUTRW

The Lagos State government has come hard on the leadership of the NURTW in the State, over their over bearing attitude and distruption of commercial activities by their members.

The warning was issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, Gboyega Akosile on his official twitter handle on Wednesday morning in Lagos.

Recall that MC Oluomo who is a leader of the NURTW in the State, recently signed a bilateral trade agreement with the Oride and SONIK, an agreement running into several millions of naira. A move which sparked outrage, condemnation and caused the public to keep asking when governor Babajide Sanwoolu abdicated his responsibilities to the Transport Union.

Such an agreement, under normal circumstance should be signed by the Governor or his commissioner for transportation, but was signed by NURTW leader, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya known as MC Oluomo, which signalled that the governor is not in firm control of his government.

Despite the MoU, members of the Union and task force usually don’t allow Oride to operate freely within the metropolis, as various factions who were not carried along in the deal are angry, leading to the disruption of the commercial activities of Oride and other businesses.

Recently, there have been factional fights amongst the union in most parts of Lagos. A bloody fight of the Union occurred at Itire-Ikate area of the State last month, with several properties destroyed, which caused the Local council leader of the area, Hon. Ahmed Apatira to ban them.

Lagos state government in their effort to curb the menace of the street urchins, has vowed to deal with any member of the public or a group, who poses a security threats to the State.

In the case of the NURTW, if government do not take a firm stand, they may emerge as the constituted authority, while goverment becomes helpless.
