Kiefer Sutherland, the British-Canadian actor, has been arrested following an alleged assault of a ride-share driver in Los Angeles.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the incident occurred at about 12:15 am on Monday at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood.
Police said the actor entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver and made criminal threats. The LAPD added that the victim was not injured during the incident.
Sutherland, 59, was released after posting a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 2. His representatives are yet to comment on the development.
The matter is also currently under investigation by the LAPD’s Hollywood division.
Sutherland is widely known for his roles as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in the TV series ‘24’ as well as his portrayal of the US president in ‘Designated Survivor’.
He is the son of late veteran actor Donald Sutherland.
The actor has had several run-ins with the law in the past. In 2007, he was sentenced to 48 days in jail for driving under the influence and violating probation.
He was also arrested for assault on fashion designer Jack McCollough in 2009, though the charge was later dropped. His most recent arrest before this incident was in 2020, following an illegal U-turn in Hollywood.
