Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has revealed that she intensified her support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the last election because she was bullied over her political choice.
Akintola, who openly backed Tinubu throughout the campaign period, said her decision to stand firmer with the then–APC candidate was triggered by an opposition supporter who harassed her for supporting him.
Speaking on a recent episode of With Chude, the screen icon explained that she decided to double down on her support just to spite the individual who bullied her.
She also urged Nigerians to learn to respect differing political opinions.
According to her:
I supported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the last election because somebody annoyed me with their bullying. Nigerians are annoying. Don’t bully other people. We have our rights to differences of opinion.
Akintola stressed that every citizen is entitled to their political preference without intimidation or harassment.
You don’t like this man [Tinubu], cool, you have the right not to like him. You prefer another person, good for you. But don’t bully others.
She also expressed displeasure over the bullying faced by veteran actress Joke Silva, who also supported Tinubu.
They bullied aunty Joke to the point that someone wrote something so inhumane. So I made a video and said, I’m also supporting Tinubu, kill me, let me see if you can change my mind.
Calling for tolerance, Akintola said Nigerians must accept that political disagreements will always exist.
We need to stop bullying. We will never all agree, and that’s fine. Till tomorrow, you might not believe he was the best man for the job, but at that point, he was who I wanted, who I voted for. You can’t take my voice away from me; it’s mine.
