The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified former National Secretary and ex-Senator Iyiola Omisore, along with six other aspirants, from contesting its 2026 governorship primary in Osun State.

A committee led by Chief Obinna Uzoh concluded its screening on 4 December, 2025 and submitted its report the following day to the party’s national working body.

According to the committee, the disqualified aspirants failed to meet mandatory nomination requirements, particularly the rule that each candidate must present sponsorship from at least five fully registered, financially up-to-date APC members from each Local Government Area in Osun.

The aspirants barred alongside Omisore include Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, former deputy governor Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Senator Babajide Omoworare.

Only two aspirants, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, were cleared to contest the December 13 primary after satisfying the party’s screening criteria.

The screening committee said its decision was guided by Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution, along with Paragraph 6(c) of the party’s primary election guidelines.

The ruling has stirred controversy within the state party fold. Some allies of Omisore and the other disqualified aspirants have described the decision as politically motivated, signalling possible legal challenges or appeals within the party’s dispute resolution framework.
