Popular skit maker and singer, Carter Efe, has criticized the organizers of the 17th Headies Awards for giving a posthumous award to late Afrobeats singer Mohbad.
At the event held on April 27 in Lagos, Mohbad, who passed away in 2023, was honored with the Best Street-Hop Artiste award, received on his behalf by his widow, Wunmi. Reacting, Carter Efe slammed the decision, questioning why the singer was recognized only after his death.
“Why Headies dey misbehave now? You go dey nominate Mohbad? Wetin make them nominate Mohbad? But when the boy dey alive, them no give am o. Anything for the clout na him dem dey do,” he said.
The comment sparked mixed reactions online, with many agreeing that Nigeria often celebrates its talents only after their demise.
