The family of the late Evangelist Mrs Rosemary Oromoni has announced burial plans for the grieving mother who died in November 2024, three years after the controversial death of her son, Sylvester Oromoni Jr a former student of Dowen College.
Mrs Oromoni is set to be laid to rest on Friday, August 9, 2025, at the family’s residence in Warri, Delta State.
The late evangelist reportedly battled depression and high blood pressure after the tragic loss of her 12-year-old son in November 2021, a case that captured national attention and sparked outrage.
Sylvester Jr. died under mysterious circumstances, with his family alleging he was beaten and forced to ingest a harmful substance by fellow students. Dowen College, however, claimed he sustained injuries while playing football. The conflicting narratives led to multiple autopsies and a prolonged legal battle that ended with the Lagos coroner ruling the boy died from natural causes linked to sepsis. No student was indicted.
Unhappy with the outcome, the Oromoni family delayed his burial for over two years. He was eventually interred in January 2024. Barely 10 months later, his mother passed on.
The double tragedy has left many in mourning and further highlights the emotional toll the unresolved case had on the family.
