Tiger Woods crash: The interior of the vehicle saved his life

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villaneuva has provided new details about Tiger Woods’ rescue from a car crash.

According to new reports, the ‘Jaws of Life’ were not used and it was thanks to an axe that were able to extract the 45-year-old golfer. It was also ruled out that another car was involved.

During Tuesday’s press conference, Villanueva said that the investigation will take several weeks. However, he ruled out that Woods was intoxicated. Villanueva also stated that the interior of the vehicle was crucial in allowing the golfer to survive the impact.

“The exterior was completely damaged, but the interior [was] intact. That was the key for it to survive the accident. Otherwise, it would have been fatal,” Villanueva said.

Villanueva also admitted that the version of the “jaws” was a misunderstanding and that they finally chose to use other instruments.

“He suffered serious injuries to both legs, but I can’t say anything more about it until the doctors declare it,” he said.

“In a first version police said to use hydraulic cranes, but it was decided to use other tools such as an axe to complete the extraction.”

Similarly, officer Carlos Gonzalez asserted that Woods was conscious when the officers went to the scene of the accident and that he was wearing a seat belt.

“This probably saved him, although he could not stand on his own,” said Gonzalez.

The area has been cited as a common place for high-speed accidents. It will be a few days yet before the final report details are revealed.
