2shotz, the Nigerian rapper, has revealed how a years-long assault allegation from actress Beverly Osu led to the collapse of his marriage, career, and mental health.
The controversy originated in 2013 during Osu’s appearance on the Big Brother Africa reality show. While discussing past relationships, she claimed to have been in an abusive relationship with an unnamed rapper, even displaying a scar as evidence.
Though she did not mention him by name, public speculation immediately linked the allegation to 2Shotz due to their rumoured past romance.
Appearing on the Teju Babyface Show, the rapper, born William Orioha, detailed the origins of their relationship, which began professionally when Osu featured as a vixen in his music video.
He admitted the relationship later became intimate, but stated he tried to end it when she pushed for a more serious commitment.
The 46-year-old claimed the situation escalated when Osu’s mother confronted him. He added that the confrontation led to a heated argument with Osu.
I was accused of many things; my Instagram was buzzing, people cursing me, tearing me apart. I didn’t know my ex-wife was taking note of it, planning how to use it to destroy me for her own good, he said.
What happened was, she was in my video and after a while, we started having an intimate relationship — even though I knew she had the same with other guys.
She wanted to be my girlfriend, but I wanted to disconnect from her. One day, I got a call from her mum saying she would like to see me. When I met her, she said she was looking for her daughter and would hold me responsible if she didn’t find her. She threatened me.
Later, when I saw her, we had an argument about why her mum was calling me and about her claiming on social media that we were engaged.
At that point, I shoved her face with my hand, and she called it assault. Nobody wanted to hear my story, and it cost me my marriage. I started losing everything — even my daughter. I’ve only seen her once since then. The situation gave my then-wife something to hold against me.
He revealed that the incident cost him shows, deals, and business opportunities, leaving him depressed and suicidal.
He said he later discovered Beverly’s accusation was deliberate, orchestrated by people who wanted to ruin him since he had no controversy to his name.
Everything crashed. I was labelled, and I lost everything. I wasn’t getting shows or deals; my businesses folded. I became so depressed and almost committed suicide. I probably would have died if I weren’t saved, he added.
However, a friend of mine made me understand that some people were looking for ways to destroy me because I had no controversy to my name.
He also told me Beverly had said she needed to bring down a celebrity to blow, and I became the target.
2Shotz rose to fame with the release of his debut album ‘Pirated Copy’ in 2004. He has transitioned into a career as a photographer and cinematographer in the United States.
