The Federal Government has inaugurated Nigeria’s first non-surgical spinal decompression centre in Abuja, marking a significant advancement in the country’s healthcare system.
The unveiling, which took place on Saturday, was performed by the Minister of Health, Muhammad Pate, represented by the Director of Hospital Services, Salaudeen Jimoh.
Speaking at the event, Jimoh highlighted the importance of the centre, noting that it aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on Health, which prioritizes improved healthcare access for Nigerians.
“This initiative comes at the right time, in line with President Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery. We appreciate the management, especially Dr. Craig Slapinski, for choosing Nigeria for this innovative project,” he stated.
Dr. Craig Slapinski, Clinical Director and Co-founder of the Spine and Nerve Centre, acknowledged the high demand for the centre’s services, emphasizing the need for expansion.
“The challenge we are facing is the high volume of patients seeking treatment. We are working on expanding by hiring more staff and acquiring additional equipment,” he said.
Slapinski also praised the government’s support, particularly in licensing and regulatory approvals, which facilitated a smooth setup process.
The centre offers a non-surgical alternative for patients suffering from chronic pain, providing relief without surgery or long-term medication use.
“Many Nigerians used to travel to Ghana for this treatment, but with this centre in Abuja, they can now access world-class spinal decompression therapy locally,” Slapinski added.
He further disclosed plans to open more centres across Nigeria within the next two years, reinforcing the country’s commitment to modern, accessible healthcare solutions.
