Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has showered praise on club captain Bruno Fernandes, insisting that the Portuguese midfielder “deserves” to win major trophies.
Fernandes has been one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers over the last decade, racking up 94 goals and 79 assists in 276 appearances since his move from Sporting CP. However, with United struggling for form, top-flight silverware has remained out of reach.
Despite the Red Devils’ turbulent season, Fernandes has been in exceptional form, recently scoring a hat-trick in United’s 4-1 Europa League victory over Real Sociedad. Following the win, Amorim emphasized Fernandes’ importance to the team and urged his players to step up to help their captain achieve success.
Amorim’s Praise for Fernandes
“We know that sometimes he gets frustrated. He wants to win so badly that when things are not going well, he keeps changing positions and chasing the ball.
“Sometimes he needs to trust his teammates, but when we need him, he is always there. He drives the ball forward, scores goals, and defends well. He is the perfect captain for our team, and we need to help him win titles because he deserves it.”
Fernandes’ Quest for More Silverware
Fernandes lifted his second trophy with United last season after winning the FA Cup, but with the team out of the Premier League title race, their only shot at silverware this season remains the Europa League. United will face Lyon in the quarter-finals as they aim to bring home a European trophy.
