Merseyside Derby Appeal Rejected: Liverpool & Everton Stuck with April 2 Fixture

Liverpool and Everton have failed in their late appeal to reschedule the Merseyside derby to an earlier date, a decision that could have provided both clubs with much-needed extra rest.

The Anfield showdown remains set for Wednesday, April 2, despite requests from both clubs to move it forward by a day, according to Mail Sport. Everton face Arsenal just three days later, while Liverpool continue their title charge, looking to maintain their lead over the Gunners in the Premier League race.

Why Was the Appeal Denied?

While Everton play Arsenal at 12:30 PM on Saturday, their request was dismissed as it did not violate the league’s 60-hour minimum rest period rule.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are still recovering from back-to-back defeats—a Champions League loss to PSG and a Carabao Cup final heartbreak against Newcastle—but remain 12 points clear at the top of the table.

A Crucial Clash for Both Sides

  • Liverpool seek revenge after Everton’s last-gasp equalizer in the reverse fixture, where James Tarkowski’s volley denied them three points.
  • Everton, in their final season at Goodison Park, have little left to fight for but pride.

A win for Jurgen Klopp’s men would take them another step closer to their second Premier League title, while Everton hope to disrupt their rivals’ momentum.
