Legendary Nigerian comedian Ali Baba has set tongues wagging after revealing some jaw-dropping experiences he’s had behind the scenes of Nigeria’s corridors of power.
Speaking candidly on the latest episode of the Outside the Box podcast, the godfather of Nigerian stand-up comedy shared that he has, on multiple occasions, encountered the wives of men he personally knows — in the bedrooms of governors and other high-ranking figures.
Ali Baba recalled one particularly awkward moment during a private meeting at a governor’s residence. He said a woman — the wife of someone he knew — walked out of the governor’s bedroom. The governor, unfazed, told her to return inside as he wasn’t “done with her.”
Rather than expose her later, Ali Baba said he played it cool when he met the woman and her husband at an event in Lagos.
“The husband said, ‘Oh how are you, meet my wife.’ I said, ‘Oh madam, it’s a pleasure, I haven’t seen you in five years!’ She played along and later called to thank me for my discretion,” he recounted.
The veteran comic emphasized that these types of incidents are more common than people think among Nigeria’s elite circles — and that silence and tact are sometimes the best responses.
Social media has since lit up with mixed reactions — some praising Ali Baba for his maturity and class, others expressing shock at the depth of infidelity and moral decay in high places.
One thing is clear: Ali Baba didn’t just pioneer comedy in Nigeria — he’s seen it all too.
