Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has voiced his optimism about the team’s prospects in their upcoming Europa League quarter-final clash with Lyon. Despite their inconsistent form this season, Onana remains confident that the Red Devils will advance to the semi-finals.
United, who have been eliminated from both the EFL and FA Cups and currently sit 13th in the Premier League, are relying on the Europa League for any chance of silverware this season. Onana believes that with the right mindset and focus, Manchester United can secure victory against Lyon, who are also struggling in Ligue 1.
Ahead of the game, Onana emphasized the importance of a winning mentality. “We have to go there and show who we are. If we are focused, stay compact and together, and follow the game plan, we will be winning the game. Of course, it’s not going to be easy but I think we are way better than them.”
Onana, who has faced criticism since taking over from David de Gea as United’s first-choice goalkeeper, is undeterred by the negativity. He stressed that his primary focus is helping the team, and he remains calm, regardless of the external pressure. “It doesn’t affect me because the decision I make is to help the team. Sometimes I will make the right decision; sometimes I will make the wrong decision.”
Manchester United will look to capitalize on Lyon’s poor form and take the first step towards their Europa League semi-final aspirations.
