Travis Scott is switching gears — not just as a rapper but as a full-on beat-making machine. With JACKBOYS 2, a fifth solo album, and more Cactus Jack releases on the horizon, La Flame is diving headfirst into production.
In an exclusive chat with Complex on April 8, the Houston hitmaker revealed:
“I’ve been really into beat making… You’re hearing a lot of the same beats and the same drums.”
And he’s got a point. In today’s streaming-heavy music world, fans are constantly bombarded with repetitive trap patterns and recycled sounds. Even with producers like Metro Boomin, Ye, Pharrell, and Mike Dean on speed dial, Travis is making it clear he’s not waiting on anyone — he’s crafting his own sonic universe.
“That process [of beat making] is what makes it exciting to make the songs,” he added.
Ironically, while the internet is flooded with “Travis Scott–type beats,” few truly capture the innovative energy of Rodeo or UTOPIA. Still, Scott remains at the forefront of that space, even as others try to mimic his formula.
He also hinted at producing for other artists alongside his personal projects — including the long-anticipated albums from Sheck Wes and his own fifth studio LP, which he teased might get an early preview at Coachella 2025.
Until then, fans can hold onto UTOPIA, which is still in heavy rotation. His UTOPIA: Circus Maximus Tour picks back up in May with a stop in Qatar, followed by shows across Africa and Asia starting in October.
