She expressed concern over the increase in unsanctioned filming activities across campus, including within student hostels.
Alaga-Ibraheem clarified that the institution already has a formal process for granting permission to use its premises.
These procedures, she explained, are essential for maintaining safety, decorum, and protecting the university’s image.
The attention of the University of Lagos Management has been drawn to the increasing use of the University premises, including hostels and other facilities, for shooting of films/videos (skits, vox pop etc) and cinematographic activities, without appropriate authorisation, the statement reads.
The University has established procedures guiding the use of its premises and environment for any form of recording or content production.
These procedures are designed to ensure safety, decorum, and integrity of our academic and residential spaces, as well as protect the image and reputation of the University.
The statement outlined the new mandate: any individual or group — including students, staff, or external collaborators — must seek prior approval from the communication unit at the senate house.
While reaffirming the university’s support for creative endeavors, Alaga-Ibraheem stressed that all activities must align with institutional guidelines to ensure order and safety.
Accordingly, all individuals or groups: students, staff, or external collaborators, intending to shoot any content on campus are required to obtain prior approval from the University, she added.
Requests for approval should be sent to the Communication Unit, 7th Floor, Senate House, UNILAG, Akoka.
The University encourages creativity and responsible expression; however, such activities must align with established institutional guidelines.
Members of the University community and general public are therefore advised to comply strictly with this directive in the interest of order, safety, and collective responsibility.
