Arsenal delivered a crushing response to their recent wobble on Saturday, tearing Leeds United apart in a ruthless 4–0 demolition at a rain-lashed Elland Road to reassert their authority in the Premier League title race.
Despite losing Bukayo Saka to injury in the warm-up, Mikel Arteta’s side showed no mercy, combining steel, control and clinical finishing to overwhelm a Leeds team that entered the contest in strong home form.
The breakthrough arrived after Leeds’ early pressure came to nothing.
Arsenal struck first through Martin Zubimendi, who rose unchallenged to power home a header from Noni Madueke’s teasing delivery, swinging the momentum firmly in the visitors’ favour.
Leeds’ resistance crumbled further when goalkeeper Karl Darlow, under pressure from another Madueke corner, could only punch the ball into his own net, handing Arsenal a 2–0 cushion and draining belief from the home crowd.
With the rain intensifying and Leeds chasing the game, Arsenal landed the decisive blow in the 69th minute. Gabriel Martinelli shrugged off Pascal Struijk before whipping in a low cross that Viktor Gyokeres calmly steered home, underlining Arsenal’s growing control.
Though the scoreline suggested comfort, Leeds enjoyed spells of possession and noise from the stands, but Arsenal’s backline, strengthened by the returns of William Saliba and Jurrien Timber
Arteta’s substitutions added the final insult.
Introduced from the bench, Gabriel Jesus capped a dominant display with a superb fourth goal in the 86th minute, spinning away from his marker after a slick pass from Martin Odegaard before drilling the ball into the bottom corner to complete the rout.
Arsenal could have scored more, with Darlow denying Martinelli late on, but the damage had long been done.
