Ademola Adeleke, the Osun state governor, has publicly expressed his unwavering pride in his nephew Davido after his recent Grammy loss
Davido was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for his collaboration with Omah Lay on With You at the 68th Grammy Awards.
Also in the category was Burna Boy Love, Wizkid & Ayra Starr Gimme Dat and Tyla Push 2 Start’ — who ultimately won the award for the second consecutive year.
Reacting to the outcome, Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle, took to his X page to share a photo of the artiste with a supportive caption: Proud of you always @davido.
Davido replied with gratitude and determination, quoting the post: Love u Excellency!!! We move ACCORDINGLY SIR.
The category, introduced in 2024 to recognise African artistes, has seen Davido nominated each year since its inception — first for Unavailable in 2024, in 2025, for his feature on Chris Brown’s Sensational’ and in 2026, for his collaboration with Omah Lay on With You.
However, the trophy has eluded him,
In 2024, Tyla clinched the award for her hit single Water.
Tems, the Nigerian songstress, however, won the award for her song Love Me JeJe in 2025.
