Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a China-bound auto parts dealer at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, with 95 wraps of cocaine.
Nwabueze Nicholas (62) was held after checks revealed that he concealed the illicit drugs by ingestion to evade security scrutiny.
A source at the Kano airport told our Correspondent that the suspect almost passed through security checks, but for the eagle-eye NDLEA officials who busted his moves.
Nwabueze had attempted to traffic cocaine to China, disguising as an auto spare parts dealer.
The NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, confirmed the story in a Statement.
According to him, the suspect was intercepted on Saturday, January 31, 2026, during outward clearance of passengers travelling to China through Addis Ababa on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET940.
According to the Statement, Nwabueze tested positive during a body scan and was placed under excretion observation, during which he expelled 95 jumbo-sized wraps of cocaine with a total weight of 1.589 kilograms.
In his confessional Statement, Nwabueze said he ventured into drug trafficking to raise funds for the completion of a house project in his hometown at Enugu State.
He claimed to be trading in clothing and auto spare parts in Lagos.
However, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers at MAKIA, for the arrest and seizure, urging them to sustain professionalism and commitment in cracking down on couriers of illicit drugs.
