Dangote Refinery sparks market war, slashes Petrol price again

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced its ex-depot (gantry) price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS, or petrol) by N25 per litre, bringing the rate down from N799 to N774 effective immediately.

The Lagos-based 650,000 barrels-per-day facility notified petroleum marketers of the change in a circular from its Group Commercial Operations Department on Tuesday.

The notice stated simply: This is to notify you of a change in our PMS gantry price from N799 per litre to N774 per litre.

The move reverses part of an earlier increase in January 2026, when the refinery hiked the gantry price to N799 from N699 amid fluctuating crude costs and operational adjustments.

That rise had contributed to retail pump prices climbing to around N830–N850 in many parts of the country.

The latest cut comes as analysts point to improving refinery efficiency, stabilizing global crude prices, and heightened competition from imported petrol cargoes and emerging modular refineries.

Gidipoint views the reduction as a calculated strategy to regain market share and edge out foreign importers.

Data from the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) recently showed imported petrol landing at costs roughly N77 cheaper than Dangote’s previous N799 rate in some cases, putting pressure on domestic supply chains.
