Widespread Failure Reported as WAEC Releases 2025 CB-WASSCE Second Series Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of results for the 2025 Second Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates. According to the council, 42.17 percent of candidates achieved five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

In a statement from the National Office in Lagos, Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, confirmed that candidates can access their results at www.waecdirect.org, and then retrieve their digital certificates via www.waec.org. Those requiring hard copies are advised to apply through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal (e-Certman).

A total of 69,604 candidates registered for the examination, a 1.8 percent increase from 68,342 in 2024. Of these, 65,752 candidates sat for the exams at 370 centres nationwide. The gender distribution was 48.68% male (32,005 candidates) and 51.32% female (33,747 candidates). Additionally, 235 candidates with special needs, including those who are visually or hearing impaired and albinos, participated.

WAEC reported that 61,943 candidates (94.21 percent) have had their results fully processed and released. Results for 3,809 candidates (5.79 percent) are still being processed due to candidate-related errors, with the council assuring swift completion.

Analysis shows that 33,989 candidates (51.69 percent) obtained credit or better in at least five subjects, regardless of English Language and Mathematics. Notably, 27,727 candidates (42.17 percent) earned five credits or more including English Language and Mathematics—comprising 13,416 males (48.39 percent) and 14,311 females (51.61 percent).

Meanwhile, WAEC disclosed that 1,899 candidates (2.89 percent) had their results withheld over alleged examination malpractice. Investigations are ongoing, and affected candidates will be notified of the final outcome after review by the council’s committee.
