Foluke Adeboye, wife of Enoch Adeboye—the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG)—has shared that she once threw her gold jewellery into a lagoon as a testament to her newfound faith after becoming born again.
In an interview recently circulating online, Foluke recounted the dramatic changes in her lifestyle during the formative years of the RCCG. Speaking on Gold Maker TV, she admitted to having a deep love for fashion in her younger days. Every woman loves fashion, she remarked, recalling how she even purchased gold and various pieces of jewellery for her son when he was less than two years old.
However, everything changed after she embraced Christianity. Foluke explained that, at the time, wearing earrings and gold was strictly forbidden within the RCCG. The moment we became born again in RCCG, it was taboo to have earrings, she said. So I dropped everything in the lagoon.
Her decision drew attention and even criticism, particularly from her mother’s friend, who questioned why she hadn’t given the jewellery to her mother instead of discarding it. Foluke responded, I said whatever is not good for me is not good for my mother.
Looking back, she reflected, What do I miss? Not much.
