Two Osun Undergraduates Fatally Shot in Suspected Cult-Related Attack

Two unidentified undergraduates have been killed in a suspected cult attack in the Ede area of Osun State.

According to PUNCH Metro findings on Wednesday, the incident took place on Tuesday night. Around six students were reportedly attacked in their off-campus apartment by suspected cult members.

A police source, speaking anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the case, revealed that the assault was linked to ongoing cult rivalry in the area. The source said the assailants, intent on revenge, forced their way into the students’ residence at night and attacked them with dangerous weapons.

All the students suffered varying degrees of injuries, and two later died from their wounds. The remaining injured victims have been hospitalised and are currently receiving treatment.

An anti-cultism group, Naija Confra, also confirmed that two students had lost their lives in the attack. The group alleged that suspected members of the Aye confraternity had tracked a Buccaneer member known as Dara to the apartment before launching the assault.

According to the platform, the attackers targeted Dara, who holds the position of first shipmate among the Buccaneers and is usually accompanied by the group’s leader, known as the Big Eye. The attackers reportedly found Dara, the Big Eye, and other officeholders in the house and launched a serious attack.

Two fatalities were reported, including Dara (the first mate) and another individual referred to as the SJ. Other Buccaneers present, including the group leader, are said to be in critical condition in the hospital.

When contacted, Osun State police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed the incident but stated that only one person had been killed. “Suspected cultists had a clash on Tuesday, and one person was killed. Investigation is ongoing,” Ojelabi said.

This incident comes after PUNCH Metro reported in March that the state police command had arrested five suspected cultists involved in violent clashes in the Ilesa metropolis.
