Emeka Ike Announces Candidacy for House of Representatives

Emeka Ike, a renowned Nigerian actor, has formally announced his candidacy for a seat in the House of Representatives.

Ike revealed he will contest for the Abuja Municipal/Bwari federal constituency on the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

Explaining his motivation, the Nollywood star said his bid for legislative office is driven by a commitment to champion a “proper systematic structure” that can fast-track national development.

I am running for the federal House of Representatives under the Bwari federal constituency in Abuja,” he stated.

We want to make a statement. If I have brought happiness to Nigerians, it’s time to bring the dividends of democracy closer to the people. Let’s challenge those who think the power belongs to them—if we unite, they will step aside.

A member of his campaign team confirmed that Ike clinched the NDC primary and is now set to contest in the 2027 general elections.

This marks Ike’s return to politics. In 2018, he contested for the House of Representatives seat representing Ideato South LGA of Imo State under the Young Progressive Party (YPP).

With this move, Ike joins a growing list of Nigerian celebrities entering the 2027 electoral race under various party banners. Filmmaker Fidelis Duker recently declared his intention to contest for a House of Representatives seat in Cross River State, also on the NDC ticket.

Ike’s acting career began with the 1994 film ‘Deadly Affair’. He has since starred alongside Nollywood legends including Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Chioma Chukwuka, Kate Henshaw, Desmond Elliot, Jim Iyke, and Ramsey Nouah.

After a long break from the screen, Ike made a comeback in 2023 with a role in Toyin Abraham’s film ‘Malaika’.
