Police Dismiss Kidnapping Rumors at Abuja Primary School

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has debunked reports of a kidnapping at Phase 1 Primary School in Gbagalape, Abuja.

In a statement issued Thursday in Abuja, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, clarified that at around 10:30 a.m., officers from the Nyanya Division received a distress call about an alleged kidnapping at the school. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) promptly deployed officers and surveillance teams to the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that pupils had suddenly started shouting “kidnappers” and fleeing the school, causing panic among teachers and residents. In response, officers cordoned off and thoroughly searched the premises. No evidence of a kidnapping was found—no suspects were seen, and no victims identified. Police also patrolled surrounding hills, boundaries, and nearby schools as a precaution, but again, found nothing suspicious.

SP Adeh urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could trigger unnecessary panic. She encouraged residents to report suspicious activity or emergencies to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
