The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances in a major intelligence-driven operation along the Lekki-Epe axis.
Addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai revealed that the intercepted truck was allegedly transporting the uniforms to the South-East. Four suspects have been arrested and are assisting police in identifying and apprehending others involved in the importation.
Fatai explained that the tactical team acted swiftly after receiving intelligence about the movement of the truck. “The vehicle conveying the sacks was headed from Lagos to a destination in the South-East. Following the tip-off, operatives intercepted the vehicle and arrested those transporting the items. They are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing,” he said.
The Commissioner further disclosed that the truck was also carrying cartons of suspected illicit drugs alongside the military uniforms. “Areas where we have seen these bandits, we have seen them wear these uniforms all over the place. Who knows what they intend to do with them? We are still investigating to get to the root of the matter,” Fatai added.
The case remains under investigation as the police continue efforts to uncover those behind the operation.
