Police authorities have apprehended Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the ‘director-general’ of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Okokon Iniedu, Adeyemi was arrested by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Osun State. Iniedu confirmed the development in a brief message obtained by Channels Television, stating:
We have just confirmed the arrest of Mr. Adeniyi Adeyemi by a team of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Osun State. Thank you.
A video released alongside the statement shows Adeyemi being interrogated by police officers following his arrest.
Details about the circumstances of Adeyemi’s arrest remain limited. However, the arrest follows a bench warrant issued by Justice Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja after Adeyemi failed to appear for his scheduled arraignment. The warrant was granted after an oral application by the police prosecutor, Wisdom Madaki.
Adeyemi faces an eight-count charge involving allegations of forgery, fraud, and impersonation. He is accused of forging an appointment letter purportedly signed by President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, as well as creating counterfeit presidential letterhead documents on March 8, 2024.
Prosecutors also allege that Adeyemi forged requests for collaboration and office space, purportedly originating from the State House in Abuja and directed to various ministries and offices across Nigeria’s 36 states, all while presenting himself as the director-general of the PFIPC.
