American R&B singer Chris Brown pleaded guilty on Friday to a public order offense stemming from an alleged brawl at a London nightclub in 2023.
Brown, 37, appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London wearing a beige suit and dark brown tie. When asked to enter a plea to the charge of affray, he responded, “Guilty.”
As part of the plea, Brown will not stand trial for several other charges, including attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing an offensive weapon—a bottle—connected to the same incident. Prosecutors indicated those charges, which Brown previously denied, will be dropped at a later date.
Brown, who previously had a high-profile relationship with singer Rihanna, is scheduled to be sentenced on October 26.
He has been on £5 million ($6.7 million) bail and spent nearly a week in jail in May 2025 before being released. Police arrested him at a luxury hotel in Manchester just hours after his arrival by private jet.
In 2025, Judge Tony Baumgartner permitted Brown to continue his European tour, which had started in Amsterdam in June.
All charges relate to an incident at Tape, an exclusive private members’ club in London’s Hanover Square, on February 19, 2023, during Brown’s UK tour. The victim was reportedly struck multiple times with a bottle, then chased, punched, and kicked.
Brown appeared in court alongside co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, 40, also a US national, who faced the same assault charges and also pleaded guilty to affray. Both men will be sentenced on October 26. Brown has been released on bail pending sentencing.
