Nollywood actress Ronke Ojo, popularly known as Ronke Oshodi-Oke, has urged Nigerians not to criticize her if they see her supporting a politician, emphasizing that any such endorsement would be solely for her livelihood.
In a recent interview with African A-List, which was uploaded to YouTube on Sunday, Oshodi-Oke addressed questions about politics and the possibility of accepting money to endorse a political candidate.
She described Nigeria’s political system as “dirty” and avoided discussing it in detail, making it clear that her personal choices should not influence anyone’s vote.
“Politics in Nigeria is dirty, so I don’t want to talk about it. I’m not saying you shouldn’t vote for whoever you want,” she said. When asked directly if she would accept payment to support a politician, Oshodi-Oke explained, “If you see me backing any politician, just understand I’m trying to put food on the table. Please don’t insult or drag me—let me eat.
The actress also spoke candidly about her strained relationship with fellow Nollywood star Sotayo Gaga, revealing that they haven’t spoken in about five or six years due to a disagreement. Despite their distance, Oshodi-Oke shared that Sotayo sent her ₦150,000 when she was ill. “We hadn’t spoken in a long time—not that we were at war, just a minor disagreement. The last time we spoke was five or six years ago. But when she heard I was sick, she sent me ₦150,000. Since then, we haven’t talked. If we see each other at an event, we simply walk past without greeting,” she said.
Oshodi-Oke also opened up about her health challenges, struggles in marriage, motherhood, and her experiences in the Nigerian film industry. She noted that her illness profoundly changed her perspective on life and relationships. The actress further revealed that her health struggles led her to join the Celestial Church of Christ, but she stressed that she does not judge people of other faiths. She concluded by reflecting on the difficulties of balancing her acting career with family responsibilities and personal challenges.
