Yemi Solade: The Reasons Behind My 13-Year Departure from Church

Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has shared the reasons behind his decision to stop attending church services for over a decade.

In a recent interview on “Curiosity Made Me Ask,” the 66-year-old explained that limiting worship to a single day restricts his relationship with God.

Solade revealed that he has not been to church in 13 years, arguing that dedicating one day to worship is not biblically supported.

“God created me in His image. I stopped going to church 13 years ago because I was no longer enjoying it. Though I am a child of God, my life isn’t structured around any particular day. There’s no mention of Sunday in the Bible. Without God, I wouldn’t be alive,” he said.

Despite not attending church, Solade emphasized that his faith remains central to his life. “I know God too well. If you get close to me, you’ll see that God lives in me,” he added.

Discussing his approach to relationships, Solade described himself as someone who avoids close friendships but connects widely with others.

I don’t have a friend. I don’t roll with anybody, but I move with the world because God has instructed me to do so. I am loved by many people, and I love many in return, but I do not seek intimacy with people. That works for me.

Addressing public perception, the veteran actor noted that the attention he receives reflects his importance. “People will always speculate and say things about me—most of which are untrue. If I wasn’t important, no one would talk about me,” he concluded.
