Nigerian singer Chidozie Godsfavour Ugochinyere, widely known as Fave, has spoken out about the double standards facing women in the music industry.
Appearing on the Afropolitan Podcast, Fave highlighted how female artists are often judged not only by their talent but also by their looks, clothing, and perceived attractiveness.
She explained that attention frequently shifts from women’s music to their bodies, with people focusing more on appearance than artistry.
It’s harder for female artists to succeed. They’re not measured by their talent but by what they wear. If your tummy isn’t flat… it’s rarely about the music; it’s about people’s sexual desires or fantasies.
That’s a big problem, because people care more about how decently you’re dressed before they listen to you,” she said.
Fave further noted that male artists are not subjected to the same scrutiny. “Men aren’t held to that standard. And when it comes to performances, female artists actually perform better,” she added.
