The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced on Sunday the arrest of two women at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Anetor Gloria Ubong, a 62-year-old Nigerian-American, and Qhina Beauty, a 34-year-old South African.
During separate interdiction operations, NDLEA agents found 36.65kg of cocaine mixed with dried pepper in Qhina’s luggage, while Ubong attempted to smuggle 9.45kg of high-grade synthetic cannabis, known as “loud,” in her checked-in boxes.
Interrogations revealed that Ubong claimed her daughter and her daughter’s fiancé, Jibola, arranged the shipment. Qhina, meanwhile, disclosed the involvement of two other syndicate members: one based in the United States and the other a car dealer in Lagos.
In simultaneous operations across Nigeria, NDLEA officers seized 64,000 opioid pills in Niger State, recovered 583kg of abandoned cannabis sativa in Ondo State, and intercepted 6kg of skunk in Delta State. Alongside enforcement efforts, the agency also conducted War Against Drug Abuse awareness campaigns in schools and communities in Oyo, Kano, and Anambra states during the week.
