Red-hot MFM FC of Lagos striker, Stephen Odey, was again on Wednesday in good form against Rivers United, as his brace gave his team a 2-1 victory, sending them to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League table.

Odey, who is now on 12 goals from 11 matches, got his two goals from the penalty spot with the two resulting from fouls on CNN goal of the week award winner, Sikiru Olatunbosun.

Olatunbosun who was a thorn in the flesh of the visitors was brought down in the 28th minute of the game with Odey converting the kick. Christian Weli restored parity for the CAF Confederation Cup campaigners two minutes later.

With the first half coming to an end, Olatunbosun was brought down again in the vital area and a penalty was awarded the hosts but players and officials of Rivers United contested the referee’s decision. After few minutes delay, the game resumed with Odey scoring from the spot for his second goal of the day and 12th of the season.
