Luis Enrique‘s daughter has tragically passed away at the age of nine due to a bone tumour.
On March 26, Luis Enrique abruptly left the Spain national team setup in Malta to return home because of an unspecified family emergency.
Three months later, on June 19 he tendered his resignation from the job in which he thanked the federation, players, staff and the media without going into any detail about the matter at hand.
“Our daughter Xana has passed away this afternoon at the age of nine after fighting for five intensive months against osteosarcoma,” a family statement read on Thursday.
“We thank you all for the affection we’ve received during these months and we appreciate the discretion and understanding.”
The statement continued by thanking the hospital and medical staff.
