There has been a decision made on Richland County Senior Deputy Ben Fields, after cameras caught the officer using excessive force to remove a student from her highschool.
It became a huge social media topic on Monday, as the Spring Valley High School resource officer was called into the classroom to remove a student who had allegedly been interrupting the class by taking out her phone.
Fields will now be relieved of his duties and fired from his position.
According to Sheriff Leon Lott,
“The student was not a danger and Officer Ben Fields treated her as if she was a physical danger.”
He also said,
“Yes, some brutality complaints about Ben Fields have been sustained in the past.”
The FBI, Justice Department and state are all investigating the matters and it could potentially be charged as a civil rights violation.
