Lifetime’s Aaliyah biopic has been marred by controversy, and it’s about to get even stranger. The network has revealed the first trailer for the Aaliyah biopic Aaliyah:
The Princess of R&B set to the sounds of Iggy Azalea. The Aussie rapper’s song “Goddess” plays between scenes from the made-for-TV movie, executive produced by Wendy Williams.
The 30-second spot gives us a first glimpse of Alexandra Shipp in the role of the late singer.
If you’re wondering why Aaliyah’s music wasn’t used in the trailer, that’s because Lifetime wasn’t allowed to license her catalog.
Zendaya Coleman was originally cast in the role of Aaliyah, but dropped out after backlash.
