Regragui spoke after the Atlas Lions edged Nigeria 4–2 on penalties following a goalless 120 minutes at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah.

According to the Morocco coach, the encounter was physically demanding, with the Super Eagles forcing his team into a tough battle before they eventually prevailed in the shoot-out.

We suffered a lot. Playing extra time consumed much energy, but reaching the final at home is a beautiful gift, Regragui said.

He praised the Nigerian team and their coach, Eric Chelle, for their discipline and tactical organisation throughout the match.

I congratulate the Nigerian team and Coach Eric Chelle for the great work they have done, he added.

Regragui also thanked Moroccan fans for their overwhelming support, describing the victory as a collective effort driven by unity and sacrifice.

We received very touching messages, and they had a big impact on us. I am very proud of my players and our fans, he said.

Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou emerged as the hero of the night, saving penalties from Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi to seal Morocco’s place in the final.

His heroics allowed Youssef En-Nesyri to convert the decisive spot-kick, sparking wild celebrations among the home supporters.

Reacting after the match, Bounou credited teamwork and fan support for the hard-fought win.

The atmosphere was wonderful. The match was very difficult, but the players did what was required, he said.

Named TotalEnergies Man of the Match, Bounou praised Regragui’s preparation and the fighting spirit within the squad.

The coach prepared us very well. We fought together, and our fans gave us extra motivation, he added.

Morocco will face Senegal in Sunday’s AFCON 2025 final in Rabat as they chase a second continental title.
