Antony Reflects on Betis Move: “Best Decision,” but Future Uncertain

Antony, the Brazilian winger currently on loan at Real Betis from Manchester United, has described his move to Spain as the “best decision” he has made. However, the 25-year-old is still uncertain about his future beyond this season.

Since joining Betis in January, Antony has impressed, contributing four goals and four assists in 12 appearances. His performances have caught the eye of teammates, with Isco suggesting the club should start crowdfunding for his return next season, and coach Manuel Pellegrini praising him after a derby win against Sevilla.

Antony’s move to United in 2022 from Ajax came with high expectations, but his time at Old Trafford did not meet those expectations, with only eight Premier League appearances this season before his loan switch.

Thriving in Spain

In his new environment, Antony feels he has rediscovered himself and found happiness. Reflecting on his time at Betis, he said:
“I found myself, I needed to find myself, I needed to be happy, I needed my family to be happy too. Every day that goes by, I see that it’s the best decision I’ve made.”

The Brazilian also expressed his fondness for Seville, drawing parallels with Brazil in terms of the sun, food, and the warmth of the people.

What’s Next for Antony?

Despite his joy in Seville, Antony remains hesitant to make any commitments about staying at Betis beyond this season:
“I’m very happy here, but it’s still too early to decide.”

Antony will have another opportunity to boost his reputation further when Real Betis face Barcelona on Saturday in what promises to be another exciting La Liga encounter.
