
Four dare-devil armed robbers attacked reverend sisters at a convent, SS Joachin and Anne Catholic church in Ijegun, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.
The robbers stormed the convent in the early hours of Saturday 9 April at Irede street in Ijegun where the church is located.
According to eyewitnesses they forced their way through the gate and broke the doors leading their rooms, carting away valuables.
Though there were no reports of physical attacks or injury sustained by the sisters, our reporter learnt that the sisters were molested and intimidated to part with their valuables.
P.M.NEWS gathered that Items carted away include phones, laptops and undisclosed sums of money.
A night guard attached to the church was brutally attacked and injured and he is laying critically ill at undisclosed hospital in Lagos.
According to the residents, the robbers went to the convent carried out their diabolic act before proceeding to the church where the priests reside to continue their looting.
However, the security guards on duty resisted them and in the process, one of the guards was brutally attack.
When our reporter visited the church to meet the parish priest who is also in charge of the sisters, Rev. Father Joseph Nwanua on the matter, security men at the gate said he was not around.
One of the guards, however, confirmed the attack and declined to make further comment on the matter.
At the Isheri Oshun where the matter was reported, the DPO was also not around to comment.
However, a police source confirmed the incident and told our reporter that the police have since commenced investigation on the matter.
The residents who spoke to our reporter expressed shock over the attack on a spiritual home and concluded that there are no sacred places again for criminals.
