Barcelona have started this season better than last year with Messi

The doom and gloom that has surrounded Barcelona in recent weeks felt like it came to an end, temporarily at least, on Sunday after their 3-0 win at home to Levante, in which Ansu Fati made his return to action and marked the occasion with a goal.

Curiously, Ronald Koeman’s side have now got off to a better start in LaLiga Santander than they did last season, when they had a certain Lionel Messi in their ranks.

Barcelona have picked up 12 points from their opening six matches, whereas in the 2020/21 campaign they had eight after the same number of games.

It is a similar story in terms of goals too, as this season has seen Barcelona score 11 goals compared to 10 at this point last year.

One aspect that has seen a slight decline is the defence, with Koeman’s team having conceded six goals this season, one more than last season.
