It is arguably football’s most famous academy, the production line that nurtured the likes of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, and Xavi.
And Barcelona will pay homage to La Masia on its 40th birthday next season by wearing a vintage away kit.
A throwback to the design Barcelona played in back in 1979, the new shirt is yellow with a diagonal stripe in the traditional club colors of blue and red.
The new strip will be made available to those visiting the Barca Store at the Nou Camp on Monday before going on public sale on Tuesday.
The v-neck collar on the new Nike shirt features the stripes of the Catalan flag, representing the bond between the club and the region it represents.
La Masia, which translates into English as ‘The Farmhouse’, was originally used as the club’s social headquarters but was remodelled in October 1979 as a dormitory for some of the 300 young players in the academy at any one time.
Since then, the academy has produced a number of exceptional players for the Barcelona first team with Messi, Iniesta, and Xavi the most famous.
