Everton salvaged a dramatic late draw against Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, with Beto scoring in the seventh minute of added time to cancel out Pascal Gross’ first-half strike.
The home fans were left fuming as the away end erupted in celebration.
Brighton had taken the lead in the 28th minute when Gross finished from close range, giving the Seagulls what appeared to be a comfortable advantage. For much of the second half, the home side controlled proceedings, creating chances to extend their lead. Kaoru Mitoma’s close-range finish was disallowed for offside, and Brighton even had a near miss when James Tarkowski’s header was cleared off the line, only for replays to show it was blocked by a teammate.
Everton’s response came late, with manager David Moyes making triple substitutions to inject fresh legs into the team. The tactical switch paid off when Jake O’Brien’s shot was parried by Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, and Beto, celebrating his birthday, was on hand to bundle the ball home and rescue a point for the visitors.
The draw leaves Brighton frustrated at home, while Everton will take confidence from a spirited fightback, earning a hard-fought point despite being under the cosh for large periods of the game.
