Bayern Munich have had a bad time in the DFB Pokal of late, having been knocked out of last year’s competition against second-tier Holstein Kiel.
This year, their cup campaign has ended prematurely again, losing 5-0 to Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday evening in the Round of 32.
Gladbach destroyed them, despite the Bavarians having all of their stars on the pitch. The hosts had scored three times in 21 minutes to lead comfortably for most of the game.
Having chained together 84 consecutive games in which they had scored, the goals finally ran dry.
Bayern were unable to make things any better in the second half. Gladbach made it 4-0 in the 51st minute and got their fifth before the hour mark.
It’s the second year in a row that Bayern have been knocked out at this same stage.
