Asake followed hot on his heels, also picking up two nominations in the Best Afrobeats category, one for his track “Active” with Travis Scott and another for Get It Right alongside Tems.

Tems shares that second nod with him, marking another win for her already glowing career.

Meanwhile, Rema also secured a Best Afrobeats nomination for “Baby (Is It A Crime), and Wizkid made the same list for Piece of My Heart featuring Brent Faiyaz.

Ayra Starr, not left out, got a nod in the MTV PUSH Performance of the Year category for her hit Last Heartbreak Song.

This year’s VMAs introduce two new categories, which are, Best Country and Best Pop Artist, as voting remains open until September 5.

The award show will hold on September 7 at UBS Arena in New York and will air live on CBS and Paramount+.

Globally, Lady Gaga leads the nomination chart with 12 nods, followed by Bruno Mars (11) and Kendrick Lamar (10).

But for Nigerians, the spotlight is shining brightest on homegrown talent. From stadium tours to award shows, Naija music is not begging for a seat — it owns the table.
