Chelsea take revenge on Leicester

Chelsea‘s hopes of a top four Premier League finish and qualification to next season’s Champions League were boosted by a 2-1 win over Leicester City on Tuesday evening.

Leicester were sitting third in the Premier League table at the start of the match, and had just beaten Chelsea in the FA Cup final three days earlier. However, goals from Antonio Rudiger and Jorginho were enough to see Thomas Tuchel’s men leapfrog their opponents.

With one game to play, Leicester are three points ahead of Liverpool, who also have a game in hand, and have an inferior goal difference to the Anfield club, which may see the Foxes missing out on Champions League football next season altogether.

Kelechi Iheanacho bagged a late consolation for Leicester and became the first player to score a Premier League goal on all seven days within a single season. But they were unable to create much else over the 90 minutes and must rely on Burnley or Crystal Palace to take points from Liverpool, or beat Tottenham by at least three clear goals, or more should Liverpool win their matches by more than one goal.
