A London court has granted Chris Brown, the US singer, bail in the sum of £5 million.
The 36-year-old R&B superstar was arrested last Thursday at The Lowry Hotel in Salford and later charged with grievous bodily harm following the alleged assault at Tape nightclub in Mayfair.
Brown, often called by his nickname Breezy, is accused of attacking music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle during the incident.
Diaw filed a civil lawsuit against the artiste, seeking $16 million (£12 million) in damages for injuries and losses stemming from the incident.
The Grammy winner had been in Manchester preparing for his upcoming UK tour, which includes performances at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester and Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in June and July.
During the hearing at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday, Tony Baumgartner, the judge, ordered Brown to pay a £5 million security fee to the court.
The security fee is a financial guarantee to ensure the singer returns to court. Failure to meet bail conditions could result in forfeiture of the amount.
The music star who had initially been refused bail was asked to pay £4 million immediately, with a further £1 million due in seven days.
As part of his bail conditions, the court allowed Brown to proceed with his tour next month, but he must surrender his passport unless travelling for the tour.
Other bail conditions include living at a specific address known to the court, not contacting the alleged victim, not visiting the Tape nightclub, and not applying for international travel documents.
Brown is expected to appear again in court on June 20 alongside his co-defendant, 38-year-old singer Omololu Akinlolu, better known as HoodyBaby.
